Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are feeling smug.  Yesterday’s mail brought an exciting package from our friend Loreen Niewenhuis, stamped MEDIA MAIL.  Inside was an advance copy of A 1000-Mile Walk on the Beach, the book Loreen wrote about her year-long trek around Lake Michigan.

Inside the book there is a chapter about the part of the trek that took her along the Antrim County shoreline, and inside that is a section entitled Miss Sadie and the Cowboy.

The best part is this. While the book celebrates the beauty of the lake we love, it is also a heartfelt call to action to protect its life-giving water. Jerry Dennis, one of my favorite outdoor writers, says In her walk around Lake Michigan, Loreen Niewenhuis accomplished what many of us have only daydreamed about. Her adventure is told with verve and boldness, and she is a clear-eyed observer of the lake and its beautiful and sometimes ravaged shore. This book is a welcome addition to the literature of the Great Lakes.

I’ve been following the story for a long time on Loreen’s blog, Lake Trek, and I’m delighted to have the finished book in my hands. Review to follow, in plenty of time for the March release by Crickhollow Books!
