Possibly I should be over at the Eastport Market stocking up on candles, firestarters, batteries . . . and treats. But here I am, bravely blogging on so that all you snowbirds can have the latest snow report from Torch Lake Township.
There isn’t any.
Not yet anyway. And on top of that it is practically balmy out there. This morning the Duo and I wandered around down on the beach with no hat, no gloves, and an open coat. OK, that was just me. The Duo kept their coats closed. What the heck? you are wondering. Miss Sadie too.
The radio weather forecasters assure us that there is a 100% chance of snow beginning any minute now. Or maybe it will start out as rain but it will definitely become snow. Eventually. (I don’t do television. Perhaps you are watching an ominous swirly thing move across Lake Michigan as I sit here blithely blogging, but I am blissfully oblivious.)
So far what we have is fog. Must be an election year.
I will be sure to update you—assuming that I am not buried under an avalanche. We are not overly concerned. A little disheveled perhaps, but we have been rolling about in political rhetoric. OK, that would be the Cowboy. Miss Sadie and I managed to avoid most of it. So far. We suspect that the avalanche is coming.

Yes, ma’m! Snow is on the way! Lots of wind, too! Nothing here yet. And six inches of blown stuff is child’s play for the brave snowplowmen, so I am not terribly anxious. I have a nice Coast Guard post for today;the snow scenes will have to wait.

I am beginning to Doubt. Mama Nature is inscrutable. Six inches of nice fluffy snow would be lovely. We could sweep it off the steps without great difficulty, and it would cheer Dale Reedy up a good deal. He is growing morose, driving around with the plow on his truck, burning gas to no good purpose at all.
I will look forward to the Coast Guard photos. They have a very nice helicopter that patrols the shoreline over on this side of Big Blue.

12:56 p.m. Thursday – no snow yet in Northport. My sister in central Illinois reports snow and cancellations.
The Cowboy looks adorable. Miss Sadie, you look adorable, too!

Here it is almost 3pm and there is not a flake of snow out there. That is neither complaint nor boast, merely observation. I have an image of a giant Divergence pushing blizzards north of us, south of us, all around us. Then later it will all turn around and come at us out of the east.

They are predicting a Big Snow Event here, too. I’m not worried. We’re used to it, and the snow plow guys could use some work.
Loved this: “So far what we have is fog. Must be an election year.”

We used to be used to it. Now we’re getting used to . . . a very long November. Who knows what we will get used to next. More fog.

Snow here in Door County. Most up in the air than on the ground, tho. Tomorrow may look very different.

Reporting slushiness at 5:45 pm in Antrim County. Tomorrow will definitely look very different. I, sadly, will most likely look exactly the same.

Hee, hee – love your metaphors Gerry. We were under a “winter weather advisory” around here today, and got about as much as you did.

Ah, but we are getting something now. We shall see how much of it in due course. (I put the car in the garage when I got back from the Eastport Market–had to go there for provisions just in case–so we will almost certainly not get piles of snow. On the other hand, we will probably lose power, trapping my car in the garage. Possibly I should go out there right now and open the door just in case.)

It’s 7:20 here on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia Gerry, and snow has blasted its way in. High winds and a rising temperatures are making for nasty slippery roads. Tomorrow the temperature is going up to around 9 C (not sure 50 F ?) … so no need to shovel tonight. It’ll all be gone by morning …
I assume you’re snowed under by now …

We are . . . dusted. That’s it for now. I’ll bet the U.P. is catching it, and maybe Toledo, too. Who knows what will be there in the morning? I am prepared. I have candles, a stockpile of water, and two furry warmers. Also . . . a jar of Nutella.)

Reporting in from the U.P. : 7:35 p.m. It’s snowed 7-8 inches here in the Western Upper Peninsula now. Husband has plowed driveway; wife has scraped off cars and moved them for him. If it keeps up at this rate, we’ll have to plow twice. They’re keeping us in a Winter Storm Warning until tomorrow night at 7 p.m. I’m hoping it doesn’t keep snowing that long because we want to drive up to Houghton. Much snow there yet, Gerry?

See, that’s a good start on a snowfall, but . . . but . . . Remember when four feet fell on the Soo all in one blizzard? Not that 7-8 inches is trivial, particularly if you’re the person who has to shovel it and brush it and plow it. But . . .
Anyway, right now, at 8:24 p.m., my deck is barely dusted. I’m sure there is a lot more over in Kalkaska. There always is. But . . .
Watch me cry out of the other side of my face in the morning if I wake up and have to shovel my way out of the house before the Duo can go out for their morning constitutional. Or worse yet, peer out, see that there’s still only a dusting, roll my eyes, proceed incautiously, and slide all the way across the deck and down all 22 steps on my hinder.

Up early to see if school is cancelled…no, even though the wind blew fiercely and it snowed lightly all night. Looks like all the schools over around Marquette-Ishpeming-Gwinn are closed. Ours are open. Can’t wait to see how much we got. Sorry about your dusting. Maybe you got more over night…

We did, and we’ve been out for a nice walk in it and as soon as I’ve had my coffee I’ll do a winter post. I don’t know whether the schools are closed here – it’s the sort of thing I should know, but there are a lot of things I should have learned and didn’t. I think it isn’t quantity so much as blowing and drifting that determines whether it’s safe. Keep warm.

We got ourselves a whole inch and a half today! The snowflakes were about the size of cotton balls for awhile…I tried to get video to share with all you internetfriends, but the video didn’t do the beauty justice by a long shot, so I gave up. The “frigid temperatures” are supposed to follow…one can only hope. We need to freeze kill all the nasty germs that are flying around making our town sick.

I would love to see cotton ball snowflakes. I hadn’t thought about the cold temperatures killing off all the germs, but maybe they will. I am resolved to look on the bright side. It’s definitely getting colder outside tonight–but I think all my snow went up to Kathy’s.

No snow here yet…rain yes. Snow no. Ok by me.

Our rain is turning to snow, on account of the temperature is plummeting. Still, not much snow out there for all the fuss. We’ll see if I still feel that way in the morning.

Yes, it’s weird. For several days this week I have been out with no coat on at all! Whilst there were other factors at work for the last two winters, the planet was meanwhile continuing to heat up, in the background. So now we are back to normal-ish we can see how much warmer it now is than three years ago. If that makes any sense.

You speak of weather and you want it to make sense? I do agree with you that the global climate is changing. It isn’t a smooth progression. It proceeds in fits and starts and digresses over there and back here and around that tree, but it proceeds. Nothing stays still, not even the planet itself.
